Conservancy of Southwest Florida
A young bobcat struck by a vehicle in Florida in April is back in the wild after an extensive, collaborative rescue and rehabilitation effort led by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and its partners.
The rescue began April 9 when a Conservancy supporter in Bonita Springs discovered the injured bobcat, which had a fractured front left leg and damaged toes on its right paw. The animal was transported to the von Arx Wildlife Hospital, where Conservancy veterinarian Kendall Carlin stabilized it and confirmed, with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) veterinarians, that the injuries were treatable.
Surgery was performed at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Fort Myers by Lauren Aldrich, with critical orthopedic support from Arthrex, which donated a surgical plate from its OrthoLine fracture management system…
