1. THIS WEEKEND, MARCO ISLAND: One-woman show about Marjory Stoneman Douglas

Marco Island Center for the Arts recently announced a one-woman show about Marjory Stoneman Douglas, best known for her 1947 book “The Everglades: River of Grass,” is coming to the Arts Center Theatre, Aug. 16 and 17.

“Marjory Stoneman Douglas: A Voice for the Everglades” is written by Janina Birtolo, directed by Frank Blocker and stars award-winning actress Melissa Hennig. The play follows Douglas through her life, capturing her wit, determination, and charm.

Tickets are available through the Marco Island Center for the Arts website, marcoislandart.org.

2. SATURDAY: ‘Stuttering’ John Melendez at Laboratory Theater
