Estero, FL – August 25, 2025 – Schenkel Shultz, a leading Southwest Florida architectural and interior design studio, has been selected to rebuild Sanibel Fire Station #171. The project marks the second collaboration between the firm and Sanibel Fire and Rescue, following the rebuild of Fire Station #172 after Hurricane Ian. As part of the island’s ongoing recovery, the new facility will play a pivotal role in bolstering public safety and meeting the long-term needs of the community.
The new two-story Sanibel Fire Station #171 will feature a comprehensive layout that includes a Chief Officer’s quarters, modern bunk rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and dedicated spaces for meetings and training. New living quarters and fire district spaces will be thoughtfully integrated with the existing apparatus bay to maintain a cohesive architectural narrative throughout. Renovations to the existing apparatus bays will further enhance operational efficiency while aligning with the new construction.
Resilience is central to the design. The station will meet the latest FEMA floodplain elevation standards, ensuring it is equipped to withstand future environmental challenges…
