Schenkel Shultz, a Southwest Florida–based architectural and interior design firm, has been selected to design the rebuild of Sanibel Fire Station #171. This marks the firm’s second major collaboration with Sanibel Fire and Rescue District, following their successful work on Fire Station #172 after Hurricane Ian. As part of the island’s ongoing recovery, the new facility will strengthen public safety infrastructure while addressing the long-term needs of the Sanibel community.
The two-story fire station will feature modern living and operational spaces, including a Chief Officer’s quarters, updated bunk rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and dedicated meeting and training areas. These new spaces will integrate seamlessly with the existing apparatus bay, which will be renovated to enhance functionality and maintain a cohesive architectural design.
Resiliency remains at the heart of the project. The rebuilt station will comply with FEMA floodplain elevation standards, ensuring it is prepared to withstand future environmental challenges.
