Most Expensive Homes Sold This Year Revealed

California and Florida dominated the top 10 list of the most expensive home sales in the country so far this year, according to a new report by real estate brokerage Redfin.

The amount fetched by these properties ranged from $133 million to $60 million—a much higher price tag than the typical U.S. home, which had a median sale price of $435,495 last month, according to Redfin data. Even for the luxury market, these are high prices: in August, according to Redfin, the median sale price of a luxury home was $1.25 million.

But this does not mean that the luxury market is not suffering the same headwinds buyers and sellers in the regular housing market have been facing for the past few months—including falling sales. Most of the properties in the top 10, while selling for stellar sums, only went under contract after reporting significant price cuts.

Where Were the Most Expensive Home Sales This Year?

The highest price tag, at $133 million, belonged to a beachfront six-bedroom home in Naples, Florida, which went under contract in April.
