City of Sanibel Brings Attention to C-Section Health Issue

The City of Sanibel proclaimed October Placenta Accreta Spectrum Awareness month on Tuesday, Oct. 21, during its regular meeting, joining the State of Florida to bring attention to one of the most critical maternal health issues facing women and families today.

In 1960, placenta accreta occurred in roughly one in 30,000 cesarean births; today it affects 1 in 272, marking a dramatic and urgent rise in this life-threatening condition.
