COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Shoeless, soaked, and running out of water, a father and son were hoisted to safety after their ATV ran out of gas and became stuck in the thick muck of Florida’s swamp.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said that on Dec. 4, the father and son were stranded after their ATV ran out of gas, and even their shoes became stuck in the mud of Big Cypress National Preserve. According to CNN, the area is no stranger to alligators, adding a heightened sense of danger to the rescue.
The pair called 911 as darkness fell, sparking a rescue mission that involved CCSO’s Aviation Bureau and North Collier Fire’s Rescue Specialist. Deputies said they tracked the two men using GPS coordinates and the glow of a fire they had started to keep warm…
