Council Approves Alternative to Sundial’s Request For More Beach Club Day Passes

The Sundial Resort requested that the number of Beach Club Day Passes be based on parking, rather than limiting it to the number of dwelling units unavailable to rent due to disaster-related damage, as most of the units have been repaired. The Sanibel City Council denied that request on Tuesday, Dec. 16, but unanimously approved an alternative proposed by Mayor Mike Miller.

The number of day passes was calculated as the lesser of 2.5 times the number of unavailable rental units due to storm-related damage or two passes per on-site parking space. Sundial has 25 units still unavailable due to storm damage, so it could sell 63 passes. If it were based on parking, the resort could sell 332 day passes to the beach.

Mayor Miller suggested calculating the unavailable units as two-bedroom units rather than one-bedroom units, which would yield 3.5 times the number of unavailable units. That means Sundial can sell 88 passes, which was unanimously approved by the council…
