Naples Mayor Teresa Heitman loses ground in drunken driving battle

A Southwest Florida judge has denied a motion to suppress evidence in the nearly 18-month-old drunken driving case of the mayor of Naples.

Mayor Teresa Heitmann, 62, was to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for a hearing during which Judge Rob Crown was to decide on whether to suppress the statements that Heitmann made when Naples police officers pulled her over.

Heitmann’s defense attorney argued that she was not read her Miranda Rights until more than 30 minutes after she had been questioned at the scene, and, therefore, her statements should be suppressed…
