‘Key West in the Civil War’

The Southwest Florida Archaeological Society (SWFAS) recently announced a book signing and presentation on “Key West in the Civil War” by author Robert Macomber. The lecture will describe Key West locations that you can visit today including the 1852 U.S. Naval depot, 1845-built Civil War Fort Taylor, two Martello Tower forts built during the war, the 1860 rescued-slave cemetery, the origins of famous Mallory Square and an overview of seven Civil War shipwrecks on the Southwest Florida coast. There will be a “meet and greet” with the author and a book signing session. Macomber is the author of the 17 books and an accomplished seaman. He lives here in Lee County where he grew up. The presentation will be at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 21, at the Imaginarium Museum (IMAG) located at 2000 Cranford Ave, Fort Myers. This is a free public program.

Wonder Gardens to offer expert certification

Wonder Gardens is organizing the Florida Landscaping Expert Certification Program, which consists of four sessions, along with a single refresher course. This program is intended for individuals serving on an HOA landscaping committee, although all guests are invited. It’s from 9 a.m. until noon on Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, and Feb. 13. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The refresher course is tailored for individuals who have previously completed the certification course. This class is scheduled for Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. until noon, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. The complete four-session certification program is priced at $85 for members of Wonder Gardens and $95 for non-members. Tribute band performing ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s music

On Friday, Jan. 30, Edison and Ford Winter Estates will present the inaugural Rhythm on the River concert of the year featuring the tribute band, “On The Roxx.” The band will perform well-known hits from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The concert is scheduled to occur on the historic Ford lawn, situated along the Caloosahatchee River. Gates will open at 6 p.m., with the concert commencing at 6:30. The venue provides a view of the river and an opportunity to witness sunset. A cash bar and food trucks will be available on-site. Note that coolers are not allowed. Attendees are encouraged to bring a folding chair and a sweater or blanket in case the weather turns chilly. Complimentary parking is offered in the Edison Ford parking lots located at 2350 McGregor Boulevard. ‘Marco on the Move’ exhibit
