At Marco Island Academy, a high school student is making a meaningful difference for animals in need. Amanda Fonseca, a junior at Marco Island Academy, recently founded the school’s first Animal Club, combining her love for animals with a desire to give back to the community.
Fonseca came up with the idea after noticing her school had many opportunities to help the people around the community, but not much had been done for animals. She believed students could play an important role in helping these animals while also learning responsibility, teamwork, and empathy. With encouragement from teachers and fellow students, Fonseca turned her idea into reality, officially launching the Animal Club this school year.
The club’s mission focuses on hands-on service and community involvement. Members plan to volunteer regularly at local animal shelters, where they will help with tasks such as cleaning, organizing supplies, socializing animals, and assisting staff.
