Florida cracker heritage comes alive at Sanibel fundraiser

In Florida, it’s not baked goods or pyrotechnics that are most associated with word “cracker” – it’s the culture of the state’s sturdy pioneers, especially those who herded their cattle through the scrub with rawhide whips with the characteristic sound that came to identify them.

And it’s these people the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village will celebrate at a Jan. 30 fundraiser at the island’s Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Guests can enjoy classic cracker cocktails, Florida-style barbecue, a DJ, a line dancing demo led by a professional, and a live auction hosted by celebrity restaurateur Victor Mayeron…
