Black Baggage Car on track for retelling Naples’ history

History came alive in January as the Naples Depot Museum celebrated its reopening with the Black Baggage Car Project as part of the big reveal this February. The iconic complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the oldest structures in Naples.

The landmark was severely damaged by Hurricane Ian, and for more than three years, the public has not been able to visit the Fifth Avenue site, rich in Naples’ history, until the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Originally the Seaboard Air Line Railway station, the attraction reopened with Collier County officials and museum staff presiding over the afternoon event. Guided tours, music, entertainment, drinks and souvenirs created the perfect atmosphere for welcoming the historic facility back.
