The first look at numbers from Florida’s largest measles outbreak in decades is out, and it shows a sizable jump in confirmed cases compared to last week’s report, including three cases in Escambia County.
Florida reported 50 new confirmed measles cases between Feb. 1 and Feb. 7, according to the Florida Department of Health’s latest reportable diseases frequency report. That’s nearly a 373% increase from the previous week’s 11 cases. That puts Florida at 68 total confirmed measles cases in 2026.
A little more than 67% of Florida’s total measles cases have been reported in Collier County, stemming from a large outbreak at Ave Maria University. FDOH’s data, which lags about a week behind, has only reported 46 cases at the university…
