While Southwest Florida is represented among America’s top dozen with the highest percentage of women in construction, it’s among the bottom 12 in pay.
Efforts are being made to provide more opportunities for females, and a relatively new organization is evidence of the interest in that in Lee and Collier counties.
“Founded in mid 2025 and already 700 ladies strong, Southwest Florida Women in Construction is a professional organization created to support, connect and elevate women,” said Marilyn Santiago, a mentor and an energetic driving force for the group also known as SWFL WIC. “Our community includes tradeswomen, business owners, project managers, designers, architects, engineers, developers and allied professionals who are shaping how our region is built.”…
