COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The trial of Malachi Montelongo, one of two men accused of shooting into a car and killing a woman in 2019, is underway Tuesday with opening statements following jury selection on Monday.

Opening statements began Tuesday morning, with prosecutors outlining what they described as a targeted shooting over a drug dispute.
The state told jurors that Malachi Montelongo and his older brother, Jesus Montelongo, went looking for two women who had not paid for marijuana and opened fire on the car they were in on Amos Court in Immokalee.
