The Greater Naples Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) hosts a keynote speaker on a topic of importance for community wellbeing on Saturday, March 7. The keynote speaker will be Starlette Sinclair, who has a doctorate in psychology and is an assistant professor of psychology at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her topic is the changing definition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by social movements in the early 21st century.
DEI is a framework designed to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly groups historically underrepresented or discriminated against. While designed for fairness, some DEI programs have faced legal challenges, particularly following the 2023 Supreme Court affirmative action ruling. Some initiatives face scrutiny for potentially violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and some corporate entities have scaled back DEI roles due to political and economic pressure. And there is a history long before these changes.
Sinclair will inform on the changes over the years…
