Stan Gober Memorial Bridge undergoing one-year rehabilitation

An aging bridge in Collier County is about to get a significant makeover.

Collier County announced the Stan Gober Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation Project plans to start mobilizing this week for major repairs that are expected to be completed next spring. The Stan Gober Memorial Bridge was previously known as the Goodland Bridge. It was built in 1975.

The bridge is located on SR 92, also known as San Marco Road.

Stan Gober Memorial Bridge project: What to know

  • The bridge is scheduled to be reduced to one lane today (March 12) using barrel and cones and flaggers. Conflicting pavement markers will be removed and temporary stripping will be installed.
  • On March 13 the lane closure will also be in place while the contractor installs concrete barrier walls and installs the temporary signals creating a 24-hour, one-lane bridge controlled by the signals, allowing one-way traffic in each direction.
  • The lane closure with the barrier wall will be in place for eight weeks, but could extend beyond that if additional repairs are needed. The lane closures will be in place at various locations on the bridge extending into the summer of 2026.

What is being done to rehabilitate the Stan Gober Memorial Bridge?

According to a press release, the project’s repairs consist of:

  • Structural repairs to the bridge deck, columns, foundation, and other areas.
  • There will also be environmental improvements in several locations to address and mitigate scour issues.

How will the work on the Stan Gober bridge impact traffic?

Collier County said drivers are advised that intermittent lane closures will be needed, so expect delays and take an alternate route if you do not have a destination in the vicinity.

What is the timeline for the Stan Gober bridge work?

  • Installation of work zone signage is planned to be the first step, followed by lane closures to remove pavement markings, installation of a concrete barrier wall closing the west-bound lane to traffic, and implementing a one-lane road with traffic signals at both ends of the bridge, allowing traffic in one direction at a time.
  • Next steps include bridge deck repairs, which will require some intermittent overnight as well as some daytime lane closures. To assist the traveling public, the county’s contractor will monitor and make adjustments to signal timing throughout the course of the project in an effort to mitigate delays. All work on the bridge deck requiring lane closures is anticipated to be completed by this summer. Drivers are reminded to use caution when approaching and travelling on the bridge.

What’s the impact on boat traffic?

Work under the bridge will occur simultaneously with the work on the bridge. Small boats and barges with equipment will be needed. This work consists of cathodic protection installation to prevent further corrosion, crack and delamination repairs, fender system repairs, installation of bank and shore rip rap to address and mitigate further scour issues, as well as other miscellaneous repairs and enhancements. Boaters are reminded to use caution in the bridge area and watch for construction equipment and personnel.
