NDOT plans flood warning gates for Nashville roads

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) is working on a new system aimed at keeping drivers out of floodwaters by closing problem roads during heavy rain events.

Old Glenrose Avenue has been selected as the first pilot site for a new flood warning network, according to the department.

The goal is to reduce emergency, after-hours responses by automatically identifying unsafe conditions and shutting down flood-prone roads.
