Listeria outbreak tied to ricotta cheese kills 1, 8 left sick across 3 states

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A multistate listeria outbreak tied to requesón and soft ricotta cheese has turned sickening, and even worse, deadly.

The outbreak has killed at least one person and sickened eight others across three states. Officials said seven of the eight people who became ill were hospitalized.

Listeria poses the greatest danger to people who are pregnant, 65 or older, or who have weakened immune systems because of certain medical conditions or treatments. During pregnancy, listeria infection can lead to pregnancy loss, premature birth or a life-threatening infection in a newborn. Others can still be infected, but serious illness is less common…
