NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Eviction Right to Counsel (ERTC) program announced Wednesday that Metro Council voted to formalize a partnership with the program as part of Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s Unified Housing Strategy.
In Nashville’s 2027 fiscal year budget, ERTC secured $4.5 million, which is nearly double its 2026 allocation of $2.4 million.
“Guaranteeing legal representation by codifying Eviction Right to Council in the code ensures that dignity, due process and the law itself apply equally to everyone, protecting families, stabilizing communities and preventing the trauma of homelessness before it can even begin,” said O’Connell. “I appreciate the Metro Council’s support of this measure and know this program will continue to transform legal representation from a matter of chance into a statutory guarantee.”…
