Middle Tennessee cities have their own regulations and restrictions for selling and igniting fireworks around the Fourth of July holiday.
Some prohibit lighting and selling fireworks altogether, while others have legislated approval on certain times and dates on and around July 4 and the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holidays.
Here’s a look at what many Middle Tennessee cities allow for the Independence Day holiday.
Lebanon
Fireworks can be used and discharged on July 1-5 and between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Lebanon council members reduced the number of days allowed to light fireworks last year after considering safety and the impact on pets, small children and veterans dealing with post traumatic stress. Fireworks can be sold through July 5, Lebanon Police Department spokesperson Zach Patton said.
Nashville/Davidson County
Selling and igniting fireworks in Davidson County is prohibited. Only “professional” firework displays are allowed with appropriate permitting and supervision from the Nashville Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office and The State of Tennessee Department of Insurance and Commerce.
Mt. Juliet
This year, fireworks can be shot from 5-10 p.m., July 2-4. The city allows sales through July 4, according to Fire Department of Mt. Juliet Chief Mark Foulks.
Spring Hill
Fireworks can be discharged from noon to 11 p.m., on July 4. A permit to sell fireworks to the general public is valid from June 25 through July 5.
Portland
Sales are allowed through July 10. Discharge times are June 18-July 5. Times are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except for expanded hours of 10 a.m.-11 p.m., June 19 and July 4.
Springfield
The city does not allow lighting or selling consumer fireworks.
Greenbrier
Shooting fireworks is allowed July 1-5 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., except for July 3, which is 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Watertown
Watertown allows fireworks to be lit from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., July 1-7.
Brentwood
Consumer fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are not permitted in the city limits. Brentwood’s fire and rescue teams will conduct enforcement patrols and violations may result in confiscation and fines, city spokesman Charles Booth said.
Murfreesboro
Permitted seasonal sales are offered from June 28 to July 5. Fireworks can be lit from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., July 3-5.
La Vergne
Fireworks can be lit from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 2-5. Sales are allowed through July 5.
Clarksville
Fireworks can be discharged in the city limits at 6-10 p.m., July 1-5.
Gallatin
Fireworks can be discharged from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 1-3 and 10 a.m.-11 p.m., July 4.
White House
Lighting fireworks is allowed year-round from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 10 a.m.-11 p.m., July 4. Fireworks sales under a temporary use permit are allowed for up to 15 days twice a year or at a property twice a year, whichever is more restrictive.
Franklin
Consumer fireworks use and sales have been prohibited since 1999 due to safety concerns and fire hazards. The ban includes sparklers and sky lanterns, according to the city. Consumer fireworks are blamed for residential fires in 2020, one July 4 and another Dec. 31. Fireworks vendors do set up just outside the city limits where it’s allowed and some residents may buy fireworks without realizing they are illegal to use within Franklin, police warn.
Smyrna
Lighting fireworks is allowed from 9 a.m.-10 p.m., July 3, 9 a.m.-11 p.m., July 4, and 9 a.m.-10 p.m., July 5. Sales are allowed through July 5.
Hendersonville
The city’s code allows fireworks to be ignited from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., on July 3 and 4. The city allows one vendor to sell fireworks located near Center Point Road and Caldwell Drive.
Ashland City
Fireworks can be shot from now until July 5. Fireworks can’t be lit after 10 p.m., except for July 4 when they can be lit through midnight until 12:30 a.m., July 5.
