NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Amid spiking gas prices nationwide, Tennessee’s trucking industry is feeling the squeeze on its diesel fuel supply. Experts believe the rising cost of diesel will also lead to a price increase for other everyday items.
“Definitely went up… When I first started, it was pretty cool, but probably, like, in the last two years, especially starting last year, [prices] have been going crazy here,” truck driver Zechariah Young said as he filled up his big rig to head to Ohio on Friday, Sept. 11.
In a typical week, he reportedly drives between 2,500 and 3,000 miles. Young entered trucking three years ago and considers it a good career, but he said he’s concerned with how diesel prices continue to hit record highs.
