‘We have to start over’: Hendersonville couple’s houseboat sinks from freezing temperatures

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Hendersonville couple’s home is now underwater.

Paul and Reese Michaud have been living on a houseboat on Old Hickory Lake for the past three years.

The Michauds were told that last week’s freezing temperatures froze part of their engine compartment, causing it to sink.

“Saturday, we got the call that it was sinking, or that it had sunk,” Paul said.

At the time, Paul and Reese were staying in a hotel riding out the winter storm. All their personal belongings were left in their houseboat.

“The pictures from 30 years ago of our kids, all of our clothes, my guitars, all my gear that I played downtown for 7 or 8 years, that was all gone,” Paul said.

The Michauds originally moved to Nashville for music in 2004.

Now partially retired, they decided to save up and live life on the water.

“And that’s part of the reason why we got the boat because the market went so nuts, so we were like let’s get a boat, save a bunch of money and now that’s all on the bottom as well,” Paul said.
