L.W. Wright, The Fake NASCAR Driver Who Snuck Into A Race At Talladega Then Disappeared For 40 Years, Has Passed Away

One of NASCAR’s biggest mysteries was finally solved in 2022 after nearly 40 years.

It was the mystery of L.W. Wright, the man who somehow managed to sneak his way into a NASCAR race at Talladega – and then just disappear.

For years, the NASCAR community searched for his true identity, trying to figure out just who L.W. Wright really was.

But in 2022, Rick Houston of the Scene Vault Podcast was finally able to track down L.W. Wright, and verify his identity as a Virginia man named Larry Wright.

Unfortunately though, the real Larry Wright ran into legal trouble shortly after his identity was revealed and once again found himself on the wrong side of the law – and behind bars.

And yesterday, the man behind one of NASCAR’s biggest mysteries passed away.

According to Houston, Wright passed away after being diagnosed with colon cancer just a few weeks ago at the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wright was 76 years old, and though he only ran a few laps on the track, he leaves behind quite the legacy in NASCAR.
