NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A winter storm that moved across the region in January has made the roadways an obstacle as drivers try to avoid the many potholes that have emerged.
If you’ve driven anywhere in the past few weeks, then you’ve most likely had to dodge potholes that have littered the roads.

News Channel 11’s sister station News 2 reached out to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to get some answers.
What creates potholes?
TDOT said the winter storm in January created the perfect mixture for potholes — an extreme freeze followed by a thaw cycle.
According to officials, the cycle weakens the roadway, which is then loosened by constant traffic resulting in the road eventually crumbling and popping out.
