February 6, 2024 – If you were stuck in traffic on Interstate 40 on Monday afternoon in West Nashville and you weren’t sure what was going on, here’s what happened.
A semi-truck carrying radioactive waste caught fire around 2:20 p.m. at Mile Marker 204, causing I-40 to closed in both directions.
The product was later identified as low grade radioactive waste and was isolated to its packaging.
There were no injuries reported.
Traffic was backed up for hours as NFD crews worked to cover areas of the semi-truck with tarp and move it 300 feet to clear the lane.
