Text messages sent to short-term rental owner leads to arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with scary text messages sent to the owner of a short-term rental property in Nashville’s SoBro neighborhood on Christmas evening.

According to court documents, the property owner received an email on Christmas with the subject line “staying with ya tonight.” The email reportedly included two pictures: one of the owner’s garage key fob and a selfie of a man inside her apartment bathroom.

Since nobody was scheduled to be in the property on Rep. John Lewis Way South, an employee who helps manage the unit went over and found a handwritten note outside the door, signed with the name John Mattingly, authorities said.

Metro police said the employee entered and said hello and a man responded. He reportedly talked with the employee as if nothing was wrong, but when he started digging through a bag, she began to feel uncomfortable and left to call police.
