2 Rutherford County men arrested for involvement in ‘Wet & Wild’ street racing event in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Two Rutherford County men are in jail for their involvement in a so-called “Wet & Wild” street racing event held in August 2023 in Antioch.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the incident happened on Aug. 5, 2023, at the intersection of Bell Road and Murfreesboro Pike.

Hasan Al-Ghanem, 19, and Javier Quiroz, 18, both of La Vergne, are believed to be leaders of a group of street racers known as the “Sideways Boyz.” Both were arrested Thursday, Feb. 8 by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the MNPD, according to investigators.

Al-Ghanem is charged with critical infrastructure vandalism, a felony, after police said he opened a Nashville fire hydrant and allowed water to flow freely into the intersection. He is also charged with engaging in a riot and is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.

Quiroz is charged with felony reckless endangerment and engaging in a riot after he was seen drifting and “whipping” his car around during the Aug. 5 incident. He was identified as a “slider,” also known as a driver who performs dangerous stunts as pedestrians watch, according to investigators. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
