A special therapy dog changing lives in Nashville

It was an unlikely partnership that’s paid dividends for Metro Nashville public school children.

Hi there, this is Breaking News and Suburbs editor Nicole Young with Your Week, our exclusive newsletter highlighting our best coverage. When Breaking News reporter Craig Shoup first came to me with a pitch about a special police dog named Bo, I was intrigued.

When he told me the pooch’s backstory, I was sold, and I knew we had to give the story some big play. You see, my thinking is, we hear about the negative all the time. When we can share the positive, we need to share it in a big way.

It’s important to note that Nashville police officer Faye Okert and Sgt. Bo’s partnership almost never happened. Fate brought them together two years ago.

I asked Craig what he took away from his time with Bo. I liked his answer so much, I’ll let him tell you, first hand:

“It’s clear Faye Okert has a passion for being in Nashville schools. She spent 17 years as a resource officer. But you can feel the energy she has with Sgt. Bo. You see the smile on Okert’s face. It’s almost as big as the one on the students.
