Christopher Chapman, a 43 years old man was arrested by the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) on charges of an attempted rape of a woman who was running along the Cumberland River Greenway. This incident happened on Sunday, Feb 4th around the late afternoon near the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and Cement Plant Road.
Christopher was identified as the primary suspect after MNPD utilized forensic evidence analyzed by crime lab scientists. Also on Feb 9th, the victim positively identified him from a photo lineup, solidifying the case against him.
The reports state that the victim, a 25-year-old woman, while running stopped for Chapman thinking he wanted to talk to her, but he allegedly grabbed her, placed her in a chokehold, and forcefully threw her into a nearby fence. He then got on top of her and held her down to carry out his heinous act. Luckily witness intervened and pulled him away preventing further harm to the victim.
Investigator also revealed that Before the attack, Chapman was spotted wandering away from a nearby homeless camp.
