Attempted rape suspect arrested after found hiding in South Nashville church

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Arrest records are revealing more about the arrest of a man who allegedly attempted to rape a woman while she was running on the Cumberland River Greenway.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), 43-year-old Christopher Chapman attacked a 25-year-old woman on Sunday, Feb. 4 as she was running on the greenway.

Authorities reported Chapman grabbed the woman, put her in a chokehold, threw her into a fence and got on top of her before a witness intervened and pulled him away.

On Feb. 9, officials announced that Chapman was identified by the victim from a photo lineup and after “analysis of evidence by MNPD crime lab scientists.”

However, investigators said he was jailed a day after the attack when a police K-9 team arrested him for breaking into a church in South Nashville.
