Wanted man in custody 4 months after shooting, assault in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Following multiple arrests this week, another one of Nashville’s “Most Wanted” fugitives is behind bars for 11 outstanding warrants and three new charges.

Devon Shontal Smith , 38, was featured on the Metro Nashville Police Department’s “Top 10 Most Wanted” list several times over the past four months as detectives continued to search for his whereabouts.

The charges against him stem from two separate incidents last year involving a woman he was engaged to — one in which he reportedly opened fire on her home, leaving bullet holes in the front door and mailbox, according to arrest affidavits.

The woman told police that Smith became upset after she refused to stay the night with him on Oct. 20, 2023. During their argument over the phone that evening, Smith reportedly told the woman, “I’m going to bust your window out,” and hung up the phone.

Only about five to 10 minutes later the woman reported hearing several gunshots. Investigators noted damage to the front door and mailbox. The front living room window also shattered after the gunshots stopped, according to an affidavit.
