Tennessee man shot and killed by officers after brandishing firearm in Greene County

GREENE COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has launched an investigation into a shooting where a Tennessee man was shot and killed in Alabama last month, involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

On April 25, troopers with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, officers with the Eutaw Police Department and deputies with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office assisted officers with the Northport Police Department with a vehicle pursuit, according to the ALEA.

The pursuit began in Tuscaloosa County and led into Greene County before ending when the suspect’s vehicle struck another vehicle on U.S. 11 at exit 52. After the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle, brandished a firearm and was struck by gunfire from officers on scene.

No officers were injured.

The suspect, 19-year-old Gilmar Tista-Morente, of Nashville, Tennessee, was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.
