Heat alerts continue with storms increasing through Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — You’ll want to remain weather alert during the Fourth of July holiday. While the heat will be the dominating impact for everyone, the risk of thunderstorms will increase on Thursday and Friday and some storms could be strong.

Heat alerts continue in the region: a Heat Advisory is in effect for most of Middle Tennessee (and Christian, Todd, Trigg counties in Southern Kentucky) through 7 p.m. Thursday. Additionally, an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Carroll, Benton, Decatur and Henry counties through 9 p.m. Thursday.

Thursday’s feels like temperatures could be as high as 110 for areas in the heat advisory and up to 115 for areas in the excessive heat warning! That is dangerous heat so be sure to take breaks in the air conditioning and drink plenty of water.

While the heat will be the dominating concern, there is a secondary issue of strong to severe thunderstorms. On Thursday there is a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for all of Southern Kentucky and most of Middle Tennessee. The primary hazard is wind gusts & heavy rainfall. However, there is a low to very low risk of hail and a isolated tornado (mostly focused in Kentucky).
