It’s been a year of pulling out and checking the program record books so far for the Tennessee Vols – on both offense and defense . That continued on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium where the Vols blew away Kent State 71-0.
Tennessee set a number of program records on offense. 71 points is the most in modern era (since 1937) in program history. 740 total yards was also a program record, the second time this year Tennessee eclipsed 700 yards (718 vs. Chattanooga). Tennessee’s 37 points in the first quarter set a program record for points in a quarter.
And along the way, RB Dylan Sampson has looked the part of a star. As such, it’s fitting that his current run matches one of Tennessee’s best to ever do it: Alvin Kamara.
According to Tennessee Athletics, Sampson matched Kamara for three straight games of multiple rushing touchdowns on Saturday afternoon, totaling 101 yards on 13 carries with 4 touchdowns. That comes after outings of 124 yards and 3 touchdowns and 132 yards and 2 touchdowns against Chattanooga and NC State, respectively.
