Best fall foliage viewing in Middle Tennessee: When and where to see the leaves change color near Nashville

In just a few short weeks, the crisp chill of autumn will fill the air and the sounds of crunching leaves will be heard beneath our feet. The autumnal equinox falls on Sunday, Sept. 22, which means it won’t be long until Tennessee turns into a kaleidoscope of red, gold and orange.

In Middle Tennessee, leaves are projected to begin changing color by mid-October and will last throughout early November. Although the window for viewing the state’s dazzling fall foliage isn’t long, the Volunteer State offers a multitude of destinations to view the autumnal explosion of color.

“Tennessee State Parks offer lots of spectacular spots for viewing fall colors and enjoying the season,” said Tennessee State Parks spokesperson Kim Schofinski. “As temperatures cool down, adventures ramp up with lots of camping options, lakeside hiking trails, and autumn-centered events.”
