West Nashville seeing rise in crime compared to this time last year: MNPD data

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Based on a year-to-date report from the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), crime in West Nashville is on the rise.

Preliminary numbers from Jan. 1 to Oct. 5 in 2023 and 2024 show the West Nashville Precinct is the only one with a rise in violent offenses and property offenses this year as opposed to last year.

Compared to this time last year, the total number of burglaries is up 19.9% compared to this time last year, the total number of robberies is up 25.8%, and rapes are up 26.7%, according to the current data.

As for homicides, members of the West Precinct only handled three by Oct. 5, 2023, based on the year-to-date analysis. However, there have already been six homicides in that part of the city over the same period this year, marking a 100% increase in that type of crime.

“There’s not enough cops on the force right now to patrol the area that we have the growth in,” said West Nashville resident Darius Scarcella.
