Nashville suburb enjoys continued growth as state’s job market strengthens

MADISON, Tenn. (WKRN) — The job market across Tennessee is holding strong, according to economists at the University of Tennessee. In fact, growth continues across Nashville’s suburban areas.

In Madison, a job fair ended Wednesday for the community’s first Sprouts Farmers Market. The store is looking to hire 80 employees, signaling a type of growth that is being seen across the state.

Gen Z is thriving financially in these US cities, including 1 in TN, new report says

“When I was a kid, Madison was more of a bedroom community,” said Laura Knotts, the president and sole employee for Madison’s Chamber of Commerce. “So, truly suburban, where you lived here, but you didn’t necessarily work here. As we’ve developed, we’ve seen a lot of those places come into our area so you can truly stay here.”

From a “zoomed out” perspective, experts say Tennessee’s job market has stopped growing as fast as it was because there are currently more jobs than people.

“We have seen in the past several months that those growth rates have started to fall and come closer to zero,” explained Don Bruce, director of the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research at UT. “That just means we’ve kind of hit the top for a little while, we’re really a lot better off than we were in early 2020. I think we’ve added about 200,000 jobs or so.”
