NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The cost of hunting and fishing licenses could increase as high as 28%, according to a proposal made by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. News 2 went to a Nashville bait and tackle shop to see what fishermen think about a potential added cost.
Jayson Karst, owner of Finn’s Tackle Shop , has been fishing for a long time.
“You get fresh air. You see the birds. You see nature. You connect with nature again,” said Karst.

In fact, he loves fishing so much that he opened up Finn’s Tackle Shop near Percy Priest Lake. However, he worries the sport is getting too pricey.
“If you’re an adult and you want to fish from shore, you’re probably spending around $100 or $150, not including the license. That’s a big investment,” he explained.
Fishing and hunting could soon get even more expensive. This year, the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission proposed raising many hunting and fishing licenses by 28%, making an annual license $42. In addition, boating registration fees could go up 22%; and lifetime license fees by as much as 12%.
