Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel paid a major compliment to Volunteers fans this week via a comment to ESPN’s broadcast team.
During the broadcast of Tennessee’s win against Mississippi State on Saturday night, ESPN’s Dusty Dvoracek mentioned a conversation he had with Heupel ahead of the Vols’ game against the Bulldogs.
Dvoracek noted that Heupel pointed to the consistency of his coaching staff and the buy-in of Tennessee’s older players as the reason for the Vols’ quick turnaround over the last few years.
Heupel also credited Tennessee fans for the program’s recent run of success.
“He (Heupel) talked about the consistency of who he is [and] who his coaching staff is,” said Dvoracek. “He credited these players, these veteran players who stuck around. Turned into one of the better programs in the SEC.”
“He also credited this fan base,” added Dvoracek. ” Josh Heupel said they would not be here without this fan base . The buy-in from them, all the resources at their disposal, these game day atmospheres, it’s been a collection of everybody coming together. And they’ve gotten Tennessee back on top of the college football map.”
