Judge denies Vanderbilt University QB’s temporary restraining order

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A federal judge has denied a Vanderbilt University quarterback’s motion for a temporary restraining order that would have allowed him to play another season of college football.

In a motion filed Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Campbell wrote that the court was “not persuaded” about justification for the temporary restraining order filed by Diego Pavia.

In the initial complaint against the National College Athletic Association (NCAA), Pavia argued that that NCAA’s bylaws violated the Sherman Act and restrained him from making any NIL compensation because he was previously enrolled in junior colleges.

The court filing stated that if Pavia had chosen to play any other sport after high school, he would be eligible to earn NIL compensation during his fourth year. However, NCAA rules prevent him from doing so since he played junior college football in 2020 and 2021.
