NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Life-saving technology is going up along Nolensville Pike.
The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) plans to use lasers to prevent deadly crashes.
In October , a 10-year-old girl and her mother were riding an electric scooter in a bike lane on Nolensville Pike when they were struck by a car traveling at a high speed that entered the bike lane. The girl —identified as Emily Sanchez-Ramirez— died as a result of her injuries. Meanwhile, her mother sustained critical injuries.

The October crash and hundreds of others before it have initiated a need for change.
According to NDOT , from 2014 to 2022, 70 crashes involved pedestrians and bikers, while 746 were between drivers.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) will be installed along Nolensville Pike after receiving $10 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
