An MNPD officer found a black 2019 Mercedes Benz SUV that had been reported stolen. Detectives with the Violent Crimes and Auto Theft divisions tried to stop the SUV on 18th Avenue North and Clifton Avenue, but police said the teen driver refused to stop and bailed from the vehicle on Albion Street — leaving the keys inside. A police helicopter pilot gave updates to ground units and eventually found the suspect trying to hide under a shed.
The teen suspect was taken into custody without further incident; police reportedly found a loaded handgun and window punch in his backpack. Multiple credit cards that had been reported stolen on March 27 from a Mountainbrook Circle residence were recovered from the vehicle.
