NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — For years, FOX 17 News has reported on the devastating impact of fentanyl and the ongoing efforts to combat its spread. Now, Metro Police are sounding the alarm on a new and dangerous drug showing up in Nashville: xylazine.
Unlike fentanyl, xylazine is not an opioid. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, it’s a powerful veterinary sedative — not approved for human use and non-narcotic. That means life-saving medications like Narcan are ineffective against it.
