NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — High schoolers in Nashville are in class by 7 a.m. — the earliest in the nation, according to Start School Later .
In 2023, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell proposed pushing back school start times for high schools. Metro Nashville Public Schools previously stated that it studied the topic and intends to review the issue.

Since then, Vanderbilt University conducted a poll , which found that 51% of people strongly supported shifting the public school day to start and end later.
In a statement, the O’Connell said, “We’re encouraged by the strong public support for it, but we are focused on structural responses to one-time federal funding ending and volatility in the state and federal funding landscape. We do still hope to make near-term progress, but there is no timeline.”…
