Man wanted in Putnam County woman’s death found dead following pursuit in Georgia

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The suspect accused of fatally shooting a woman who was missing out of Putnam County died by suicide following a series of crimes and a pursuit in Georgia.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that 35-year-old Robert E. Smith Jr., of Cookeville, was pursued by officers in Calhoun, Georgia.

Local 3 News in Chattanooga reported that Smith had kidnapped a woman and her 10-year-old son in Atlanta and forced the woman to drive him to Nashville at gunpoint. They made a stop at Buc-ee’s in Calhoun around 4 a.m., where the woman reportedly hid in the bathroom and alerted an employee, who called police, according to Local 3 News’s report…
