East TN farmers face tough choices as tariff impacts take hold

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Farmers from East Tennessee may be increasing their prices as international tariffs raise their production costs.

As this brings uncertainty among the community, local farmers said if the products they use to run their farms increase in price, they will need to make a decision either to raise their own prices, or scale back either the quality of product they produce or the amount.

Although he has only been in the industry for about three years, Joseph Willings from Naturally Green Farm and Flowers said he has never seen the price of his feed jump as high as it has.

“I just got an email like two weeks ago saying that they were increasing all the feed by a dollar a bag,” he said. “We go through a few thousand pounds of feed every month. A dollar doesn’t seem like a lot, but it definitely adds up over the course of even a month. But over 12 months, we’re definitely going to see a difference in price.”…
