Metro Council Taps the Brakes on Bordeaux Military Training

Tuesday’s Metro Council meeting was partially overshadowed by discussion about the ongoing fallout of joint federal-state immigration arrests conducted this week in Nashville.

Several councilmembers took advantage of the pre-meeting announcement period to express outrage and urge support for the city’s immigrant community, while also highlighting a planned Wednesday special council committee meeting focused on the city’s role in immigration enforcement.

Military training

For the second year in a row, Councilmember Joy Kimbrough has raised the alarm about planned military training exercises at the closed city-owned nursing home in her Bordeaux district.

Last year, Kimbrough successfully amended similar legislation to require notification of nearby residents, but she said at a Tuesday committee meeting that some residents hadn’t received any forewarning of the training…
