The Tennessee Highway Patrol recently teamed up with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for a “public safety operation” in Nashville to tackle traffic violations and gang activity. Once again, the resulting immigration-related detentions have unleashed predictable indignation from our local officials.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell shared his “heartbreak” for the families involved. Speaking of ICE and HSI, O’Connell declared, “People who do not share our values of safety and community have the authority to cause deep community harm.”
And, of course, Metro Nashville government has been falling over itself to emphasize – repeatedly – its non-involvement and lack of cooperation with the feds or the state on this one…
